Gauge Magazine is a publication of Emerson College focused around dark themes and strange aesthetics. As Design/Layout Director I was in charge of not only doing the bulk of the design, but also putting together the final magazine.

In this spread, I was given art that complimented the poem. I wanted the poem to stand out on its own, but for the art to pop off the page.
For this nonfiction piece about eating disorders, body dysmorphia, and viewing the Birth of Venus, I took an image of the painting from the public domain and enlarged some of the body parts to reflect the themes of the piece. The dripping title emphasizes the horror themes of the piece.
I used an image of the moon to reflect the witchy themes of the poem and left the spread wide-open to reflect the ideas of flight, freedom, and a wide-open night sky.
For this essay, written under the influence of drugs, I used a dizzying background punctuated by the author's included images.
